This collection of games held my attention or caught me off-guard somehow. Worth seeing, but you probably won't want to beat them.

Alien Trilogy splash screen

Alien Trilogy

(Sega Saturn)

my toxic trait is that I will routinely overrate rail shooters and doom clones (this being the latter), but I love the mission-based structure and creepy atmosphere. the music, the vibes, the enemies, it all works great.

Digital Pinball: Necronomicon splash screen

Digital Pinball: Necronomicon

(Sega Saturn)

this pinball game has obnoxiously over the top voice acting that continuously inturrupts gameplay, several long FMV lovecraftian horror cutscenes, and a heavy metal score by dream theater. also plays at locked 60FPS. incredible experience

Baroque splash screen

Baroque

(Sega Saturn)

first person dungeon crawler with a rogue-lite structure, steam-punk visuals, and heavy brooding atmosphere/soundtrack. gameplay could use some work but all the trappings carry this quite high

Sonic R splash screen

Sonic R

(Sega Saturn)

Saturns big sonic game which makes me laugh. it's a foot racing game and it doesnt control great, but the backing j Pop and good performance make for a unique experience

Power Stone splash screen

Power Stone

(Dreamcast)

arcade free-form fighter, hey this might be the closest thing in form to super smash brothers

Virtua Fighter 2 splash screen

Virtua Fighter 2

(Sega Saturn)

ultra fluid 60fps arcade port. 30 second fights and an addicting experience all around.

Crazy Taxi splash screen

Crazy Taxi

(Dreamcast)

yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah - the offspring

NiGHTS into Dreams splash screen

NiGHTS into Dreams

(Sega Saturn)

probably the saturn's flagship title, this is a speedrunning flight-based platformer. a must play

Enemy Zero splash screen

Enemy Zero

(Sega Saturn)

space station survival horror game by kenji Eno at Warp - some true auteur stuff here. its mostly a point and click, but the enemies are invisible and only detectible by audio-based radar. incredibly flawed but almost every design choice astounds me

Border Down splash screen

Border Down

(Dreamcast)

horizontal schmup but when you die you go 'down' a level to play the same map with a higher difficulty

Ikaruga splash screen

Ikaruga

(Dreamcast)

legendary schmup with a polarity feature. my brain is not capable of processing all that happens on screen tho

Zombie Revenge splash screen

Zombie Revenge

(Dreamcast)

arcade port, beat-em-up gameplay, and corny/laughable voiceover work. perhaps overstimulating

Mr. Bones splash screen

Mr. Bones

(Sega Saturn)

ultimate bizarre game, play through dozens of different mini-games strung together. Highly unfortunate that most of the gameplay is annoying, but makes this category due to sheer willpower. One of those 'how did this get made' situations

Deep Fear splash screen

Deep Fear

(Sega Saturn)

dreadfully bad animations and voice work, has to be seen to be believed. Fun in a can't look away kind of way

Astal splash screen

Astal

(Sega Saturn)

charming platformer, short levels, trippy boss fights; for fans of games like Aladdin
